Per tyre

As with all valves a TPMS valve will degrade over time as the rubber perishes or the metal could start to corrode. These will start to diminish the integrity of the valve which could lead to a slow air loss or even a potentially catastrophic air loss.


It is recommended that whenever tyres are changed on TPMS fitted wheels that the sealing and fixing components are replaced, which will prolong the life of the valve components.


The charge is made per wheel.

In short check, your vehicle handbook to confirm and it will show the appropriate warning light that you can check to see if you have it. From 2012 all new models of cars should have been designed to have TPMS as standard and then from November 2014 all cars sold should have a TPMS system so if your car was registered since then it will have a TPMS. Then since January 2015 in the UK, the MOT laws changed to say if TPMS is fitted but not working it would result in an MOT failure.


If being completed as part of a tyre change then the additional time would generally be around 5 minutes, but if done independently then it could take longs as the valve and tyre need to be disassembled.


If there is no reading then it is more likely that the sensor itself has stopped working and will need replacing. We can advise on sensor replacement in centre as it varies considerably from car to car. If there is no reading from any of the 4 tyres there may be a more serious TMPS system fault and you will require a diagnostic check or soft wear upgrade, which again we can advise in centre.


It might do is the honest answer. If it is due to a metal component corroding after a lot of exposure to moisture or one of the rubber rings perishing from being open to the air for a long time then it would fix the problem. If however the regular loss is due to some other reason such as a nail or some other object in the tyre then this would only be found on inspection and could then be repaired (as long as in line with BS AU 159). However we would still recommend a valve service if it had not been carried out for some time.
