Essentially a really good experience, the job (tyres) was done well. Would have been five stars but the guy then tells me he's topped my oil up?! With what grade oil exactly? My car's oil level is notoriously difficult to read - was he sure it needed it? I'd have been furious to be honest if it wasn't for the fact I will service my car in the next few weeks. Simple fix though - next time just ask. I'm sure plenty of people will appreciate an oil top up but some really, really won't. They'll likely be grateful to be told but will want to go home and top up with their own oil.

My original service dealer whom I had used for more years than I can remember shut up shop and retired, this left me with a problem as to where to have my car serviced. I thought that I would try Halfords just to see what the bigger service places were like and thought that If I was not pleased with the service then it would be the first and the last time that I would go there. Always go to halfords for any work done as it is always what you expect, no hidden suprises, and always costs reasonable amount that you would expect for the work. They always fix any issues from your mot the same day too. Communication could be slightly improved, was waiting to hear my mot outcome and no one called so I had to call up after two hours. But the guy on the desk was so friendly couldn't be mad! Did feel the mechanic may have taken longer doing the work so he didn't have to do anything else for the day, but that's life! Overall fab service and will continue to use.

I have used, their service quet few times, went for Mot couple of years in the row, they never push fot expensive repairs and no feeling that they want to fail you. Did tyre mount and wheel alignment and they did very good job, better than britaniatyres which got worse.

I had an oil leak in my car which I was worried about but I was delighted when I called the longwell green branch where I always have my car serviced etc and they told me to bring it straight in after work and they would take a look , I was then advised and shown on the car it was an oil pressure switch , they then advised that I could bring in the next day after work to fit it and clean all the oil off the engine , it was fixed as arranged. Chris the manager is very aimeable and always delivers, anyone can see he works very hard and is so conscientious about client expectations and their needs . I like this branch very much they are very reliable and helpful.

Had travelled from Colchester to Bristol to spend a few days with family. There was a noise coming from the lower point of the engine. It was late Saturday evening 13th Feb but the manager very kindly put the car up on the ramp and had a quick look. He diagnosed the problem as a faulty auxiliary belt frayed. Had an interim service and an oil seal replaced.which was done very efficiently and at a very reasonable price. But since things aren't quite the same. I now have day driving lights which I didn't have before! The dashboard display has also changed but I can put that back. Most annoying however is the drive position. I know the car was road tested before I picked it up and I assume that this was for a few miles at the most. So is it really necessary for the drivers seat to be lowered and the back adjusted and the steering wheel to be pulled out to its maximum and lowered to its maximum? It took me ages to convince my wife that it was the same car!!

Was really impressed with the service I received at Halfords Autocentre. My car went in on time for its MOT, and it was ready at the time they quoted for pick up. They flagged up that one of my wheels had a nail in it, (which when checked later by my regular garage, they couldn't find anything - however they believed it to be a stone etc - a genuine mistake to make) however I was really impressed that they didn't try to sell me a new tyre - no hard sale at all. Book my Daughters Clio to the Longwell Green branch for a Major 250 service and MOT. Booked on line Saturday as they encourage for Sunday 26th October and paid my money. Had a phone call 10 minutes later from the garage saying they would not have any qualified MOT tester working that day and it would have to be cancelled. I asked why the computer would allow me to book if the service was not available? was told it was a glitch. I asked for a refund but was told i would have to ring head office on the Monday as they were not authorised to do it. Had i known this at the time i would have booked elsewhere but they already had my money. Anyway after saying i was not happy the gent on the phone started making sarcastic remarks saying "Fine i'll tell my MOT tester he cannot have any time off and call him in on his day off to do your car". I said not to worry and just do the service on the Sunday and the MOT another time but he was having none of it so thought he would make me feel more guilty by insisting to cancel his testers holiday and have him in just for my MOT. Anyway MOT failed on rear springs which i had replaced, that was fair enough. 2 days after the service the car would squeal when started, sounding just like the fan belt slipping. I took it back the following weekend after booking it in. They had it for a couple of hours and rang me to say the Cambelt and Water pump would need replacing as well as the Fan belt being worn as the noise was the Cam belt tensioner being loose? I know very little about cars but surely that would have been picked up on a major service, especially as it included dozens of checks of the car and engine. Overall a mixed view. I don't get much luck picking good garages and thought Halfords would be a safe choice. Maybe just a one off but it does have you doubting what else might have been missed or forgotten on the service. Steve

Had an Mot failure as my 4 year old Ford doesn't do many miles and the tyres we cracking on the sides. The quote for 4 tyres ended up at 397.92. This comprised of 86.50 per tyre plus 2 for disposal, plus 1.99 for a valve, plus 7.99 for balancing and even 2 for filling it with air. Bloody ridiculous. Got 4 tyres fitted complete with no ad dons for 171.80 with Ablefit. So that's what I did, then drove it back for a free retest. Simples !!!! As I said, for basic stuff, ignoring the ad dons ok. With the add ons, over to you.
