Having brought my vehicle in with 'clunking' sounds and grating sensations, the team quickly identified the error and I was phoned a few hours later to be informed about what work would need to be carried out. I was phoned back some time later in the day to be told something else had gone wrong and needed replacing and gave approval for this to be carried out also as it needed to be done, but I was told the parts couldn't come in until the next morning. So, my vehicle stayed overnight, and I was assured that it would be seen to "first thing in the morning". I had been advised it was a time consuming job, so I rang up at 1030 in the morning for an update, expecting work to be underway and near completion, but was told the parts had not long been delivered, but that it was being looked at currently and that it would probably be "done by lunchtime". So, I phoned up at 12:00 to ask for an update, again expecting the work to be almost completed, but was told again that it was a time consuming job, and that they would probably need another "couple of hours" on it. So, I thought, surely this time it's right, and so at 1430 in the afternoon I showed up expecting my car to be ready to go. It wasn't, and I'm told it's still on the ramp and that it's being put back together, and that it'll probably be "another 30 - 45 minutes" So I kill 45 minutes on foot in the local area then return and seat myself in the waiting area. A further 20 minutes later, I'm told my car is at last ready to go, and appropriately briefed on the work carried out and why it took as long as it did, but with no apology for the delay. The reason I'm being so meticulous with the time-scales quoted to me was because, sufficed to say, I wasted the better part of a day just 'hanging around' because of when I'd been led to believe the car would be looked at - and it was effectively written off for two days for the job to be done. It takes as long as it takes, and I can appreciate that, and I'd rather the work was done properly then rushed, but why get my hopes up on these timescales....not once, not twice, not three times.. every single timescale given was wrong and caused me inconvenience. I felt somewhat ill-informed in this experience, which is a great shame, since I regard Halfords Autocentre rather highly in general. It caused great inconvenience to my planning at home, especially on day two. I would rather have just been told, it's a complete write-off for two whole days, so as not to get my hopes up and leave me just waiting around, beit at home or in a waiting area, for the best part of a whole day. I am, however, pleased with the work carried out and front of house customer service, although not exactly 'service with a smile', was at least appropriate. Thankfully there are toilet facilities for customers and a nearby fuel station for liquid refreshment for waiting customers.

I received great customer service at the centre in Northampton. I was told an approximate timeframe which allowed me to go and enjoy a coffee nearby. When I arrived back the manager served me, gave me a quote for new tyres and informed me of their tyre checking service, and approximate time frame I should be checking the tyre tread. This was extremely helpful.

I recently had to take my BMW Z4 into Halfords at St James. My son actually recommended them as he said he wouldn't take his car anywhere else. My concerns for my car were that there was water in the oil, and I'd had a warning light on for the tyres. I was resigned to the fact that the head gasket had probably gone and that it wouldn't be worth repairing on a 12yr old car. However after checking the car over, the Halfords mechanics were confident that although the car had a number of faults (largely due to the low mileage I do combined with overdue servicing), the head gasket was actually ok. They did a full service and fixed all the problems which included a puncture, replacing two tyres and wipers, an air lock, doing a full oil change...basically a top notch service. The gentleman I spoke to several times on the phone, and then in person the following day when I collected my car, was extremely polite and took the time to explain exactly what they had done and in simple terms that I could understand. He also gave me advice for the future care of my car. All in all I feel that the service I received was exceptional and I'm very grateful for that. It's not easy to find good trustworthy companies and I feel that's exactly what I have found now. I can't recommend them highly enough.

My booking for my mot was easily made. I was not in a rush to get the car back however within 2 hours I had been called to say it was done. It was most helpful that they matched the tyres to the ones I would need and also advised to look on the website for alternatives as they had provided all the tyre details o my invoice. Last time I went they were also very helpful and even cleaned my car! Will defo use again!

Booked for Air con service and winter prep service 88. Advised all four brake pads and disks were WORN CLOSE TO MINIMUM THICKNESS. Car serviced annually milage 3,000 per yr. No red light on the dashboard to warn of brake pad issue. Feel I have NOT BEEN GIVEN THE BEST ADVICE (been had). Told after paying that the brakes were in the Brakes for life scheme! Also the air conditioning was not working after regas but to come back later if it does not come on in a couple of weeks. Cost 474.07. Phoned them to retrive wheel locking nut that was not put back in car! Waiting room acceptable customer service not plausible will be avoiding in future pity as had 4 tyres from here the previous year. VERY DISAPPOINTED

On line booking was straight forward & easy. No waiting to talk to anybody or spelling out words or repeating instructions. A time was given which was kept within a reasonable time delay before starting the test. Good care taken both when handing keys in & tester taking car into MOT BAy. Reception polite & friendly. Asked to return in 1 hour if not contacted sooner. Car ready within the hour after being informed that 2 bulbs needed changing, which could be done as bulbs available from stores. Having agreed to this work completed in just over an hour. Only criticism parking & headlight bulb cost over 36. Very pricy !!
