HALFORDS AUTOCENTRE OFFERS CHANCE TO RE-TYRE YOUR DEDICATED DAD

Halfords Autocentres is searching for the UK’s most dedicated driving dads after research showed that caring dads spend the equivalent of a working year behind the wheel ferrying their children around until they are 18.

The true value of dads has been revealed by Halfords Autocentres to coincide with Father’s Day and suggests that the best present for dad would be to hang up his keys for the day.

Dads clock up an average 25 miles a week and two hours 16 minutes taking their youngsters to sports, social and school events.  One in ten covers more than 50 miles a week.

Now, children have the chance to use Father’s Day to show their appreciation – and contribute to one of the biggest motoring costs.

To celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday 19th June. We’re giving eleven families the chance to win their dad a brand new set of tyres for his hard working motor.

And with a quarter of dads revealing that their children never thank them for their efforts, Halfords Autocentre manager of tyres Martin Barber believes this prize can help kids show their appreciation.

He said: “It is amazing to see from the research that dads cover so many miles ferrying their children around – it really is almost like a second job and shows tremendous dedication.

“We thought the Dedicated Driving Dad Award would help kids to show their appreciation by putting their dad forward, and maybe winning them a full set of tyres for their car – worth £400 and fitted by our expert staff.”

Martin continued: “It could be a dad that takes his kids a long distance to attend a certain activity, or just someone who is constantly on the move.

“At Halfords Autocentres we spend a lot of our time caring for family cars and it is obvious that much of the mileage they do is from parents working hard to do the very best for their kids.”

The poll of over 1,000 dads showed by the time their children reach 18, they will have driven them almost the equivalent of around the earth (23,400 miles). In petrol costs alone, at today’s prices this works out at £3893, the price of a small car - though if a typical dad was charging what he earned at work he would be owed a staggering £33,012.

The survey also showed that dads spend much of their spare time at weekends acting as a taxi service undertaking an average of 2.33 journeys and sacrificing their own relaxation time. A dedicated one in eight (17%) do more than five trips a week. Over four in five (81%) give lifts to the children of friends and neighbours.

While the average drive may be to the local school and playing field, 20% of dads admitted to undertaking a journey of over 100 miles and seven per cent over 200 miles.

Anyone wishing to enter their dad for the prize should email dedicated.dads@halfordsautocentres.co.uk  and say why they believe that their dad is the UK’s most dedicated driver. All entries should include name, address, postcode and a contact number. Visit www.halfordsautocentres.co.uk for terms and conditions.

Nominations close at midnight on Friday 24th June.
