If you've checked your oil level and discovered it's low, here's how to top it up to the correct level.

1. Locate the oil filler cap

Lift your bonnet and look for a cap with an engine oil symbol on it, as pictured. Unscrew the cap and place it to one side.

2. Pour oil in

Using a funnel to ensure you don't spill oil on the engine hood, add a small amount of oil. If you do spill any oil, be sure to clean it up with a cloth or paper towel.

3. Re-check the level

Using the dipstick, check the oil level to see if it's now at the right level.

4. Repeat

Keep adding small amounts of oil and re-checking with the dipstick until the oil level is between the markers. Once you're happy, replace the cap securely and close the bonnet.

If you accidentally overfill the oil you'll need to drain some off until it's the correct level.
